Easter is a time for sweet treats, family gatherings, and fun—but if you’re wearing braces, it’s also a time to be extra cautious. At Broadbeach Orthodontics, we see a spike in breakages after Easter, and most could be avoided with a few simple tips!
🚫 Common Culprits Over Easter:
- Hard Easter eggs and chocolate bunnies – These may look innocent, but biting straight into thick chocolate can pop off brackets or bend wires.
- Sticky lollies in gift baskets – Caramels, jellybeans, and toffees can stick to your braces and cause damage or get lodged between brackets.
- Nuts or nougat in chocolates – These hidden ingredients are sneaky troublemakers for your orthodontic appliances.

✅ What You Can Enjoy:
- Soft chocolate (let it melt a little first)
- Easter cupcakes or cakes
- Hot cross buns (avoid the ones with fruit chunks or nuts!)
- Yoghurt or soft desserts
🛠️ What to Do If Something Breaks:
If a bracket comes loose or a wire starts poking, don’t panic!
- Call us when we reopen on Wednesday 23 April to schedule a repair.
- In the meantime, orthodontic wax can help relieve discomfort from sharp wires.
- Contact your regular dentist if urgent.
- Avoid further breakage by switching to soft foods until we can see you.
🐰 Enjoy the Break – Braces-Friendly!
We want all our patients to enjoy a fun and relaxing Easter without the stress of emergency visits. A little mindfulness with what you eat can save you from delays in treatment and unnecessary discomfort.

From all of us at Broadbeach Orthodontics, have a happy, braces-friendly Easter! 🦷💐
