Getting your braces off is an exciting milestone! Here’s what you can expect at your deband appointment:
1. Removing the Braces
Your orthodontist will use special tools to gently remove your brackets and wires. The process is quick and painless, though you may feel slight pressure.

2. Cleaning Off Adhesive
Once the brackets are removed, any remaining glue on your teeth will be polished off. This may involve some buffing, which might feel a little strange but won’t hurt.
3. Checking Your Teeth
Your orthodontist will check your bite and overall tooth alignment to ensure everything looks perfect.
4. Bonding Your Fixed Retainer (If Needed)
If you’re getting a bonded (fixed) retainer, it will be carefully placed behind your front teeth. This thin wire helps prevent shifting and is secured with dental adhesive.
5. Taking Final Records
Some practices take post-treatment photos and/or a final scan or impression to create your retainers.
5. Getting Your Removable retainers
You’ll either receive your retainers on the same day or return for a separate appointment. Wearing your retainers as instructed (for life) is crucial to keep your teeth in place!
6. Enjoying Your New Smile!
Your teeth might feel a little strange and sensitive after the braces come off. You may also notice slight gum tenderness as they adjust. Stick to softer foods if needed.
